SSEAT Sponsors Two Scholarships for Stuttering Therapy Raising over $10,000

06/13/2022

In the fall of 2021, SSEAT's Founder and Director, Stan Craig, set out to raise funds to sponsor at least one scholarship for teens or young adults who do not have the means to afford the specialized stuttering intervention provided at Hollins Communications Research Institute. One HCRI tuition is $4285, which does not include accommodations and travel for 12 days of treatment (HCRI participants will spend a minimum of $6000). Stan, a recovering stutterer himself, received intervention from HCRI when he was 12-years-old and knew he wanted to give back to the community that literally helped him find his voice.

As an aspiring physician and researcher, Stan interned at HCRI in June 2022 under the guidance of Dr. Ron Webster, founder and president of HCRI. Stan received an endowment from his high school to support his internship travel and accommodations. Stan asked patrons to sponsor his internship at HCRI, with 100% of the donations directed to HCRI's scholarship fund.

After two months of fundraising, Stan raised over $1O,ooo, which exceeds the amount required to fully support two (2) full scholarships to HCRI for a teen or young adult seeking stuttering intervention.
